All sidewalks which are constructed on any public street, thoroughfare or avenue within the city limits shall be at least four feet in width; provided, however, that in any case where there are sidewalks on any street between two intersecting streets and these sidewalks are wider than four feet, then all additional sidewalks shall be of the same width as the existing sidewalks.
