Any necessary leave may be allowed by the head of the department to permit any employee to serve as a member of a jury or to exercise their other civil duties. Each employee who is granted sick leave and who, for the performance of the civil duties involved, receives any compensation shall be paid by the city for the time they is absent only in the amount of their salary less the compensation received.
