In cases where a building requiring a building number to be affixed thereon pursuant to this chapter remains unnumbered, or where the building number thereon has become lost, destroyed or defaced so as to become illegible, the owner, agent, occupant, tenant or lessee shall cause the building to be numbered in a manner consistent with this chapter within 14 days after notification therefor by the building official.
